A hearty hello to all those folks who already know how truly cool this is. Unfortunately, I have to begin by admitting I had been harbouring some really misaligned ideas of what some consider a hobby, others a way of life collecting/acquiring coinage could be or is. For me, my interests have quickly evolved into a particular niche(if I may call it that) or category; if you will be so kind as to indulge me.
I am looking forward to conversing with anyone who would be so kind as to point me in the right direction when I turn to this community for guidance from time to time and learning as much as I possibly can from more experienced and learned collector.
My current interests are with(Disclaimer...I do not pretend to know what I don't and hope to learn the lingo...now back to your regularly scheduled program)- modern American coins and more specifically a focus towards the "transitional periods". I find it fascinating. How most times mints don't advertise happenings and we have new versions of coins just show up.
A little background; my profession is in quality assurance and am fairly well versed with the available technologies when controlling non-conforming parts or pieces, when produced at a quick pace and large quantities. Wherein lies my new found fascination. How modern coins can still "escape" the mint with errors like wrong parts, planchets, inserts and damaged mint mark dies can still end up in our eager hands. The only thing more exhilarating is to find one in everyday pocket change.
I don't do this to trade or sell for profit or flip, although I am not averse to the idea of it and make no judgments towards any person(s)that do. I have found a few which I think are cool:
2004 D penny with double die obverse and what I feel is an enough to say "yup, that puppy is off center" punch.
A 2009 Lincoln formative years young man on a log with two thumbs.
There are others I have found that are equally cool. But those are for another time. I look forward to reading about what you all find interesting. If the forum topics are any indication, this should be fun.

to CCF. First lesson: it is a cent not a penny. Second lesson: you are describing a variety not an error just so you know. You are going to need to post good quality photos. The 09 is a known variety.The 04-D if it is what you say would be called a doubled die not a double die,need pics please.Feel free to ask as many questions as needed. I am sure you will like it here. Although you may not have all the correct terms for the various varieties as of yet, you'll be quickly on your way if you stick with picking up info on CCF. Good luck and welcome to the forum!
