Found this dark 1964 Jefferson nickel in pocket change. Hoping someone can tell me how to know if it is authentic. Thank you.
Rest in Peace

I believe it's just a dark toned Nickel not the elusive Black Beauty .

Notice the silver showing through on the high points. This is a darkened coin by heat tempering...in a high school science lab with a bunsen burner, or another product of our favorite un-nameable garage imp...

Thank you both for your responses. I've got 2 other Jefferson nickels that are black, but they both also clearly show through silver.
Rest in Peace

Might have been a metal detector find. Lots of dirt still in the lettering.
