I received this from my grandfather and am trying to know what year it is exactly, the grade and estimated value and any other information you can provide.
I have no expertise on the base coin - but those four added rings were not part of any mint process by any mint that I know of.
I'm going to suggest the base coin grades in the XF range - details for the added loops.
For all I know this could be a rare Japanese coin - we'll need to reply upon the CCF experts for that input - but in it's current state it is a damaged coin.
Meiji 28 / 1895. Countermarked Gin (silver) after the 1897 silver crash; these coins were briefly demonetized and sold for scrap to China etc. Value over melt is going to be minimal with the loops soldered on.
If you send it for grading, I think you will get "Mechanical Repairs - MOUNT REMOVED".
Some buyers don't mind the mount. If you want to sell it on ebay, don't use auction, use Buy Now or Offer. Your coin is very nice, my estimation is around $100.
