I got a few roll of pennies today and came across this one 1982 D small date penny. I was reading about it and apparently only one has been found in 2016. I just wanted to ask if maybe I found another one or am I just going crazy.

Good link Errers and Varieties. That explained it the best I have seen. The site I looked at was talking about if the tops of the numbers in the date look flush it is a small date and if the 98 is raised higher then it's a large date. On this coin the numbers appeared all flush at the top to me and I got all excited.

Yeah, the only thing you need to look at is the 2. The styles between LD and SD are very different and consistently so.

I agree that yours is a Large Date.

I always look at the 8. Small date has a smaller top and the large date has almost the same size as the bottom. Think how a snowman looks, small head on top of a larger bottom.
