Ah, the Philharmonic silver 1 oz. coin. One of the ones I hope to get when I go to the coin show in two weeks. I like it!

 They really are super looking coins. I love the smaller diameter, but increased thickness. I started a collection for my 8 year old, They are great, we have all six , he has a complete collection to add to for the rest of his life, affordable, no keys, no impossible back dates. Perfect forkids. |

I got this 1880 Sovereign about a week ago. These coins used to be in circulation so it does show some wear unfortunately. It's quite a reddish gold compared to modern day sovereigns.  |

Swap meet today, bought a steel penny for a quarter, and this sweet 1960 proof set for $27. I overpaid a bit but this was for my personal collection, and I just wanted the Franklin.  The guy was selling single franklins for $40, so I got a decent deal I think. The nickle has some major yellowing but other coins appear spotless. He had a 1962 and 63 too, but the coins were messed up. Edited by Superhal

No pics yet, but I nabbed a 26 S Buffalo in VG for $4! The dealer clearly made a mistake, but he stuck to the price. Also got an AU Morgan, paid $25. It was a good day!

just arrived in the mail today....   got it for lower than the average of US$ 20+ over a few auctions i'd been watching. How did I do? Next one on my list is the 1951 for sure :D |

Today's delivery:  Soon, the Death Star will be fuuuuuuuuully operationalllllll. Kinda hard to see but the non-blue sets are a couple of black and purple sets. Also got a 80's clad Statue of Liberty 50 cent piece. Anybody got info on it? Edited by Superhal

just arrived yesterday... Nice and lustrous, probably UNC, or I wouldn't have bothered...   my first coin from new Zealand!   Another first, from Australia...  One of those low mintages, I think    And.. my first Canadian... a nice silver 50 cent piece 1965 bought at melt value..  More Canadian coins due to arrive next week and I'm getting impatient already. seriously, collecting is addictive! |

Ah, the good old Farthing. Back in the 1950s that was treated much like the present day American 1 cent coin. Everyone hated them because they were worth so little. They just end up in a jar somewhere.

the things inflation does... reminds me how I would very much prefer having good old copper and silver for our coins. Real money, that's what I feel at least, although I was born way too late to experience that.
And it's all thanks to the haters that I've got such a nice example :D

I absolutely agree. I too was born long after precious metals stopped being used in British coins. What I dislike even more is that increasingly in this country we're not even using copper and nickel. We're using copper and nickel plated *steel* for coins. Circulating currency is becoming nothing more than junk.
