I still wish the other C&C sets had a bronze medal, too.

Found an example of an old PhotoCert @ PNNA in Portland...

Conder describes this as:

Quote:
FCS (Federal Certification Service)
This is an old company. Unfortunately I have never heard of it before and all I have are examples of it's product. If anyone knows more about the company, I'm all ears. One unusual feature of this company is the grader initials each "certificate". Only three other firms did this, A-Mark, INL, and "Unknown". Two varieties.
1. "Certificate" is a photo-certificate printed on cardboard stock with the coin in a die cut hole. The logo and name of the company is at the upper left with the type of coin being certified on a self stick label below it. At the upper right is another self stick label carrying the date (written in the standard American format month/day/year.), graders initials, and grade. At the bottom left is an obv/rev photo of the coin. The coin is at the bottom right. Separating the top and bottom sections is a row of white five pointed stars on red circles and separating the photo from the coin is the word certified enclosed in a red wreath. On the back is a company disclaimer and a warning that grading is subjective. At the bottom is the company name. This "certificate" is then heat sealed(?) in a vinyl envelope. Overall dimensions are 3 3/16 X 7 1/16. Used 1986 and 87.

One thing Conder doesn't mention is the " ANA" in the blue circle. It's not an actual ANA logo, but the text on the reverse calls out " ANA Guidelines now being endorsed".

John-

Great books and I love the SL upgrade. I love how the SLs in high VF and into XF show both lots of detail and yet lots of circulation wear. You know these were coins that were used in commerce.

Acquired from an individual in France and repatriated back into the hands of a U.S. collector.

Continuing-List-To-Show-Everyones-Latest-Acquisitions

This is a President Dwight D. Eisenhower (D.D.E.) appreciation medal, now officially known as a Presidential Medal of Appreciation Class 1 Award (DDE-C1-02).

Same diameter as a U.S. half dollar, a bit thicker at 2.6875 mm, smooth edge, and struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Original mintage of 500. Collector supply identified at 436 (Eisenhower end of term destruction and those held by museums).

Designed by Gilroy Roberts, the ninth Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, for use by President Eisenhower.

An interesting fact of this acquisition is the accompanying presidential envelope and thick award card (w/ gold edging) with the signature of President Eisenhower. This is a presentation medal with documentation. The first I've encountered.

An "original Ike" handed out by Ike himself !
