How about a thread devoted to the "tools of the trade" for mineral mining, precious metal mining (and panning), oil drilling, natural gas drilling, etc. Let's keep the focus on the extraction tools - for example: oil rigs, drilling platforms, pickaxes, panning bowls, sluicing tools, etc. - vs. the end product of using such tools. I'll kick things off with a coin from 100 years ago - the 1925 California Statehood Diamond Jubilee (75th Anniversary) Half Dollar. California was admitted to the Union on September 9, 1850. (Happy 175th California!) The coin's obverse presents a miner panning for gold. (The California Gold Rush began in 1848 and extended into the mid-1850s; it was supplanted by the discovery of huge silver deposits in Nevada.)

Digging into the classic-era US commemorative coin series again... The 1936 Wisconsin Territorial Centennial Half Dollar features elements of the first Great Seal of the Wisconsin Territory on its reverse (per the US Mint), namely, an arm holding a pickaxe with a pile of lead ore in the background.

The reverse of Presidential Art Medals' Nevada Statehood medal features the Nevada State Seal, which includes an ore cart emerging from a mine:
" Even a clock that's stopped is right twice a day. "
