Was a busy week for me .. with coins.
One of the coin shops was cutting down on inventory
So I bought 2000 BU State Quarters ... I have told myself
I was not going to do any more State Quarters .. but I can't
help it.
I had also bought a 1893 CC Morgan dollar .. that I ended up
not liking .. so I took it back and traded for 10 others I needed.
I am going to post the Morgans on coin grading area.

Where was this? At least from the sounds of things there are several coins stores in your area to shop from. Here in my area, we have two and one thinks his stuff is priceless and the other has overhead to keep his location. So never a deal. Looks like you had a great week!

I am in the Pensacola Florida area. There are 7 coins stores in under 20 miles from me.
Two of them I help out a day or two a week or when they are busy. Also I try to buy coins
when ever I go into any of the shops. I am sure all that is part of getting a good deal.

Three of the shops I do not frequent because I never get a deal of for that matter good service.

I think you have to be a good customer, just as much as the coin shops have to be a good business.
You have to learn how to develop a good relationship to get the really good deal.

I may not explain myself well .. when I post what I bought and what I paid .. I do not
mean it to pat myself on the back. More to let others know what you can get .. and at what price.
Information is the key to purchasing coins. Price guides only get you in a range ..

I think that the deal you got is great. But then with 7 shops in a 20 minute drive, means they know you can walk out and get a better price down the street. Here I do not have that option. In fact, I get my best deals when I am on travel and have never set foot in the shop before, and I do keep in touch and buy from them when I can. The DC area has a few elitists who know that the area has rich people who do not do their homework and can sell at a price which I can usually beat in Coin World or Stacks auctions for that matter. I share your love of Morgans, and somehow even though I have several sets of coins looking for that key date, I can not pass up a good deal on a nice Morgan or one with neat toning as there is a pop of one for that toning pattern!
I would like to volunteer in a shop in my area, but they would think that I would have other motivations. I see them offer low prices for great coins, and cringe when I see that happen, wishing I could make an offer, but they would go crazy. Right now I volunteer with kids who live in a homeless shelter I work with as a board member. It gives them a chance to consider something new and takes their minds off of their situation. We do mostly pennies as I can buy bags of "unsearched" for a reasonable price and let them go into the books I get used from the store I do go to for a dollar. So I guess, they do give me that as a bargain!

I haven't been able to get on to the forum much lately....busy! But tonight I've been browsing around and came across this very large thread. I thought it interesting that I just recently, within the past few days, was able to pick up a few "fun" coins...that is they don't fit any particular slot in my collections, but I just liked them!

I won't bore you with a bevy of photos but one of my favorite coins is this 1965 British Elizabeth and Churchill Crown.

I imagine this is not such a great find, but it is recent; picked from the scrap silver tub just yesterday. I have very few Greek coins, so it was hard to pass up, even at the inflated price. Enjoy.

I was in Greece when that coin came out. It was supposed to be a big deal and I ended up with several of them. As the years went by, the value did not do much for a commemorative issue. Thank goodness for the silver in it, now at least it has to increase in value! I have found that foreign coins in the USA do not get the respect they do in other countries, and if you look on the Internet or in coin stores, you can buy silver coins from the world for less than melt. I do not understand that, to me silver is silver. Another nice coin from that time was the Coronation coin of the kings in silver and was a 30 drachma piece. Congratulations on a nice find!

Whezzydog.....looks like a PF 69+ and nothing to keep it from being a 70! Proof with no S right? And even some cameo to it which I get fooled between C and DC as I have coins which look like they should be given that grade, but not. And then, I look at other slabbed coins and they even are not as good and get a DC grade. I can bet it was a bit of an investment AS top pop trends at near $2K to %8K for the DC version in 69! I definitely would get it graded!
