Yes, I have several from the 1940s that show this type of damage. I do not know, specifically, what caused it. I don't have any cents that show the same effect from later years. What I see now is a liklihood of quarters being damaged by crimpers. I don't see a correlation with cents or any other coin. I have seen machine damage on more recent cents, but the concentric damage shows more toward the coin's center. It's just not the same; I don't know what to say.
