What in the world happened to these two coins?

2003-D on the left. 1992-D on the right.

Found the first one last month and the second one, tonight.

I cleaned out the pits in 2003-D coin. The 1992-D is "as is".

It looks like a screen saver I had years ago. Little worms would come out and eat your desktop photo and icons. E&V called it right, it's zinc rot. (And a bad case of it.)
