1972 S Proof Set Error - Coin Community Forum

Tedpug Valued Member United States 58 Posts	Posted 11/05/2019 7:45 pm I have a couple of 1972 a proof sets that have what I think is an error. As you can see on the picture the two has a piece on it. I added two pictures of two different proof sets. They are both identical. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/05/2019 9:09 pm On the lower part of the '2' on the left? That could be a carbon spot. Are these images of two different coins, or one coin with two images. They do look different. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/05/2019 9:31 pm The darker area maybe carbon spots developing. Sometimes they appear early, sometimes many years later. Nothing can be done with them to fix the issue. Keep the better one. These maybe from the same die? Possible master die doubling on them: You could check the other areas shown in my images. Not premium for master die doubling as 1/2 of the coins struck from all three mints had this issue. So when 50% of the coins are affected, then they are just considered normal coins. In your case, a normal proof coin. Report this Post to the Staff
