I Found A 1968 SMS Penny With No S Just Like The Dime See For Yourself

itsonlymoney Valued Member United States 142 Posts	Posted 01/31/2020 10:54 pm Found a 1968 sms penny with no S. Just like the dime. I have a SAN FRANCISCO penny to compare. It does however has a faded or polished mark but not where is supposed to be. If you look the penny with no mint mark has a better relief than THE SAN Francisco penny. I looked around but couldn't find one anywhere. Could I be wrong? Report this Post to the Staff

B) the 1968 S cent your comparing your coin to is not supposed to be a proof, it's a business strike. C) your 1968 cent is a business strike coin minted in Philadelphia, it's not a error. Looks like a little circle but its am S . You can hardly see it on picture 1 but due to the shine of the coin is hard to see but next to a light source it got my attention. fortcollins Pillar of the Community United States 3675 Posts	Posted 02/01/2020 01:36 am @CherryPicker1 is correct. Both of your coins are ordinary business strikes. SMS production ended in 1967, and all 1968 proofs were struck in San Francisco. Strike quality depends on many factors, one of which is die state. Worn dies produce coins with less detail than new dies. That is most of the difference you are seeing in the coins. Report this Post to the Staff
