@jeff, that is a nice one. As the die chip in the number 8 forms as a result of the post that makes up the middle of the number, we call this a "broken post". They are common, but still a fun find.

Has all the appearance of a classic late '50s wheat cent--brown, some wear, a touch of environmental crud, and a nice die chip in the 8.
