Can anyone please identify 2 notes?
1) Japan (?), 100 yen. I have not seen any other with this person.
2) China Shanghai (1924) 5 yuan, 'Running Horse'.
'TN' monogram on both sides. Haven't found any similar online.
What does it mean?

I will can look at my reference later to answer your other question, BUT the note you reference as Japan: 100 Yuan Federal Reserve Bank of China. Emperor Shih Huang Ti. First Emperor of China. The left side photo is the Imperial Resting Quarters. The bank was a Japanese puppet bank.

The Japanese puppet banks in China were:
Central Bank of Manchukuo
Meng Chiang Bank (mongolia)
Central Reserve Bank of China
Federal Reserve Bank of China

Looks to me like the top note is a 5 Yuan note from the National Industrial Bank of China issued in 1924.
The catalog is P-526b. There were several varieties, and I did not find your T/N overprint, but it will have that base catalog number anyway. A similar version is here: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/c.../CIN0526.htm

The second note, as SCOPRU said earlier it a Puppet Bank of the Federal Reserve Bank of China issued in 1945. The catalog number is P-J88. Here's another example: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/c...CINJ0088.htm

My thanks to both for your helpful replies. I found many examples of the National Industrial Bank of China 1924 5 yuan, but none with the 'TN' overprint.

The TN and similar overprints found on Chinese notes of that period usually means that the note was put into circulation by a bank or organisation other than the issuing bank. http://asiamoney.weebly.com/chinese...notes-1.html
