We can't answer your question without seeing your coin . There can be a few reasons for that to happen .

This is a scenario I've pondered since the day they dropped the 2017-P cents. If it's true, and genuine of course, that'd be remarkable. However we can't offer assistance unless your provide pics.

If it actually is a 2017 with no mintmark, and the plating isn't damaged where the mintmark is supposed to be, then year I could see it having some value. It would just be a filled mintmark error, but it would have some novelty value as a 2017 "plain" cents since all 2017 cents are supposed to have mintmarks.

But since he hasn't been back for 6 days we will probably never know what it really was.
