1956 D Wheat Penny With Some Sort Of Damage?

Hi Everyone!

I'm very new here so please forgive me for my ignorance on this topic! I recently discovered part of my late grandfathers coin collection up in my attic. It included a couple envelopes of old wheats. I found this one to be interesting as it looks to have some cosmetic damage. Any thoughts or insights on why it would look this way? Thanks for your help!

Yes, post strike damage. Chin area took a nice hit, as did the area just below the tie. Wonder what the reverse looks like?

There's a huge dent on the observe that was created likely long after the coin left the mint judging by the patina. I think there's a grease-filled die error on the 1 of 1956, but it's probably not worth more than 5 cents or so.
