That is a design that was proposed to be used, but never adopted. To the best of my knowledge there was no such pattern made in 1878. It was made in other years but not 1878. An 1878 Trade dollar would have to be the normal design which has a different design as pictured above by JBuck (although somewhat similar) Either way your coin is a clear fake even if the design were technically correct, the execution is so poor that it is 100% fake. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 08/31/2021 09:50 am Yes it is a fake of a pattern coin and as Bigsilver mentioned the pattern was not dated 1878. The obv design was used on patterns with several dates but from what I can see that reverse only comes on patterns dated 1873. Report this Post to the Staff
