@jecz79

That's a nice Joao V! I did follow your recommendation and got a Maria II 2500$00, there is very little numismatic premium for the coins. The other coins are also a set you recommended. Again picked up at mostly bullion prices. The coin shop in Porto is very nice, but Chiado has higher quality/more expensive items. But I'm happy with what I was able to pick up. I'll be in Porto 3 more days so I try to get another coin (Açores 20 reis) if I can.

Helder, I hope you don't mind me posting these here.
I just took some new pics, so I can post these in the How Far Back Can We Go thread. Noticed some nice die cracks, especially on the 50. I wonder how much longer the die would have lasted.

Very nice 50 and 100 reis. Many of these have die cracks. I think they used the dies until they broke apart. I have a mint state 100 on my list but no luck here.

That's what I was thinking. I hope you find that 100 reis.

The 50 reis is very nice. The 100 I have a question. Do you see anything within the stars?

@hfjacinto Açores coins are beautiful. Good luck with it.

Sadly no Acores coinage but I did pick up 3 more and that's it. Tomorrow is sight seeing and then going home.

Other than a die crack through one of them, no.
Can you tell us more about what might be in the stars?

I'm back! After leaving the family the rest of the trip was great! We spent 4 days in Porto and I was able to add to my collection. I ended up getting what I came for including the gold coin and a few modern silver proofs. I haven't had time to take any pictures as we got delayed and didn't get home till 1:30 AM and today is my final vacation day so doing laundry and other chores we couldn't do while away.

First will do some pictures.

While at family we did some side trips. We went to a village that was all made of stone,

We also did some trips to Coimbra to walk the shopping area and the old town.

Had lots of great food!

But you can only handle the family so much, so we did a few days in Porto and Gaia.

We explored the Port Wine houses and sampled a few.

We also explored the city.

But like all vacations they must come to an end.

They should have the initials of the engraver.
Do not worry. If the die was worn they may be hard to see.
