I found this dollar bill in my wallet earlier and noticed that the first 4 in the serial number (on both the left and right sides) appears heavily over inked. The right side 4 is the more pronounced of the two, with light splotching on either side. What causes this? I don't generally have anything to do with paper money collectibles so I am a complete novice.
I searched "Bold serial numbers" in the search box, top left. A number of results would indicate extra ink on that number during the printing process. An inking oddity and quite common. Makes sense to me!
Try the search box and happy reading. It's a great tool.
