1972-S Lincoln Cent Charred Black Rim Portion

Flowme911 Valued Member United States 98 Posts	Posted 04/23/2022 06:21 am Opened a 1972 Mint Sealed Original Envelope about a half hour ago, noticed this immediately. Coin is still in the mint plastic. A portion of the rim has a dark black coatingvery slightly raised, and under the scope it has a charred texture it appears. Any ideas how something like this could happen at the mint? Once again sorry for poor photos! Report this Post to the Staff

Must be some sort of odd toning that is preferentially affecting that one part of the edge.
