1917 Mexico 10 Peso - Gold

Recently picked up an estate lot with a bunch of gold coins in them. One was the 1917 Diez pesos.

I've always owned 2 pesos but never the 10. Looked at values on the NGC and even the VF is priced at $1400

I imagine that's priced high but just wondering what a ball park value is.

I don't have a photo of the reverse but it's similar condition to the obverse.

Great coin
They currently sell for a hair over $550 in AU. Slightly higher if you have a true condition rarity (MS65-70). 1917 is one of the more common dates in the 10 peso Hidalgo series. They tend to follow the gold price up and down and are viewed by many as a bullion coin. When I attended high school in Mexico in 1970 you could buy them at the teller window at most banks for spot gold plus 3.5%. If only I had known what was in store for the price of gold, it was under $40 at the time.
