Hey all. Thanks for the patience. I am brand new to all of this. I was looking at the proof set I recently picked up and noticed a mark on the back of the dollar. Can you please let me know if it is a scratch/ contact mark or a die crack or other error? If you could explain what points to that identification it would be awesome.

Unfortunately it appears to be post-mint damage.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Welcome to CCF! Looks like damage scratch, to me it's below the surface. If it was from a die crack it would be a line of metal above the surface which filled into the die crack when struck.

Agree with the scratch and post mint damage. Also this coin doesn't exhibit the mirror fields of a proof coin so my guess is that it is a business strike rather than proof.

This is just a scratch, but This coin does not look like a proof coin. Can you post up a full coin image if it please?
