The Pont St Benezet across the Rhone in Avignon is arguably the most famous bridge in France, but today is only half-a-bridge. But it's one of the country's top tourist attractions and you have to pay to walk on it! Work started on the bridge in 1177 but it was frequently damaged by floods and warfare. It was largely rebuilt in 1234 but was abandoned in the 17th century when some of the arches were carried away by a flood. The bridge is famous for the French traditional song "Sur Le Pont d'Aviignon^. This crown-size medallion, struck by the Monnaie de Paris, is available from the bridge gift shop for 2 euros!
