rmpsrpms Pillar of the Community United States 4038 Posts	Posted 02/08/2024 9:10 pm Upper area? What I see is a fairly normal D mintmark, but there is a raised curve across the center. The upper/left area is incuse, as is the lower/right area. Only the center "bar" is raised. This is why I am not thinking this is a chip, but a gouge. I also don't see evidence this is a die variety. If the "bar" had been created with a D mintmark punch, then we'd expect it to extend outside the main mintmark at a fair height above the field. Is the post broken-out on the upper part, like what is shown by @Marve65 in his post above, or is the post complete but with a raised ridge going across it?
