I'm sure this is a religious item, but I was unable to find much if anything as to what it might be.

First picture reads:
palmam qui meruit ferat. Esto fedelisuso.Ad mortem et dabo tibi coronam vitae

Second picture:
Doctrinae et pietati. Alumnorum sem: Eccl: S. Caroli Borr philad

Thanks!

Also - the color is washed out with the flash, this really does have a nice tone.

Yep, a religious medal, but it also qualifies as an education medal. Apparently it was either for graduation or some other kind of scholastic achievement from a Catholic seminary in Philadelphia. This sale list website has one listed, item #1651; listed in 2006 at $50 to $75 estimate. The one listed there is described as being "crudely holed for suspension, presumably by a priest who graduated from the seminary". Yours is unholed, so it may be an unawarded piece.

Some translations, as near as I can figure:

Esto fidelis usque ad mortem et dabo tibi coronam vitae = Be faithful unto death and you will receive the crown of life.

Palmam qui meruit ferat = Let him who has deserved it bear the palm.

Alumnorum sem. Eccl. S. Caroli Borr. Philad. = Graduate of the Church of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia

Doctrinae et pietati = Doctrine and piety.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
