I've finally gotten around to scanning these three copper monsters from my collection of Regency Period British tokens. They're the penny, two penny, and threepence tokens from Wiveliscombe in Somersetshire. The obverse imagery suggests an agricultural emphasis, but apparently the production of woolen fabrics was the local economy's strong point back in the early 19th century, so there would have been a lot of sheep-shearing going on. These tokens were issued by different merchants, as their reverses show, and they graduated upward in size from 35mm/22g to 40mm/44g to 45mm/58g. Quite a pocketful of small change, and because of all that clanging around they're almost impossible to find in decent condition today. From left to right, Withers 1233, 1230, and 1225.
