Anybody here use a Compass metal detector?

I use the Tesoro Tejon (and like it) but some are telling me the older Compass machines were the best for coin/jewelry hunting in the U.S.

Any comments?

Thanks

Compass make a decent machine. I don't know about being the best, it's a Ford or Chevy thing. There are a lot of people out there still swinging them and bringing home the good stuff. The older ones are heavy, though, if that matters. As far as that goes, there are people swinging old White's Coinmasters and Tesoro Banditio I and IIs doing the same thing, not to mention Minelab "Hawk" series and Garrett "Goldbugs".
Personally, I'm a Tesoro man. I run a Compadre for fun time tot lot and park hunting, and a Cibola for Relic and old home sites.

Good post, thanks.

I guess it's kind of like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" type of thing.

I like the light weight, depth, and speed of the Tesoro. I also like Whites, Minelabs, etc., but Tesoros just seem to work best for me.

Thanks again and I'll just take this to be a point of view thing.

Compass detectors were the deepest machines on the market, when they were on the market. Their factory burned down and they went out of business.

Yes, they were heavy, but I was finding things other detectors missed so I didn't mind the extra weight so much.

Tesoro machines are very lightweight, but their depth isn't as good as some others.

I use a Fisher CZ-5 mostly nowadays, and its depth is excellent. But it thinks rusty nails are good finds.

I guess all detectors have some minuses. Such is life!
