This guy came out of hubby's coin jug.

Trying out my new found knowledge - I would say a lamination (is it an event? error? etc.)
Would the cause be that it was improperly annealed?

Nice lamination error and a appears to be a woody as well... I like it

I believe it is due to a poorly mixed, or improper alloy mix which is likely the cause of both the lamination and the wood grain texture. Some references below:

Baby steps...( more aptly small geriatric steps ) I'm getting better at identifying what's happened to the coin but I don't think I'll ever master the why.

Interesting that it could be a woody on the back I was just seeing dirt/ enviornmental damage.
