It does look like mint luster, yes! I hadn't seen the coin in several years (obviously...) but if I find it again I'll try to take less blurry photos. And that's an immense die crack/cud, too (and a more normal, but still quite large, bisecting crack on the other side). So yeah, those dies must have worn down a lot by that point. I recall some similar fields on my 1645 Livonian solidus, too; I wonder if it was something about production methods at the Riga mint specifically, and/or maybe something about soil in the Livonian area that made the coins look that way. |

Or maybe there was a tradition of extra polishing of the fields in the dies, but less attention to the devices? Anyhow, like some of spence's runs, I've got a short run of the Polish 1 grosz coins. Here is 1612 with a strange cadence of punctuation in the date:   Edited by tdziemia

https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4986707Though Krause didn't know it, apparently it is known. Cool coin. I think this is the end of my run of Polish 1 grosz coins. The crown/eagle design became standard on small Polish silver in the 1380s if I'm not mistaken.
