Short-Changed On Several Quarter Rolls Wrapped By "Old Geezers" - But I Got The Last Laugh

I rarely search quarter rolls for silver coins because they are so large (and have enough intrinsic value) that I think most customers at least glance at them and might notice an old coin that contains silver. However, I've recently had such good results acquiring half dollars at a nearby retirement community bank that I decided to also purchase eight rolls of customer-wrapped quarters there -- hoping I might stumble upon another collection dump.

Not quite. Four of these rolls contained a recent Jefferson nickel substituted for a quarter, and I found a Canadian quarter in another roll. And three of them contained only 39 coins. "Typical behavior for residents of the Commonwealth", I mused.

Then I found a tarnished 1964 Washington quarter. Not exactly a collection dump -- but the value of this coin exceeds my losses due to the "petty crimes" committed by some residents.

I will stick with CRH half dollars.

On behalf of all old geezers, 39 coins in a quarter roll is well over our average.

This happened to me as well recently...

I bought 20 rolls of quarters, 19 of which were CWR. I weighed them all when I got home... 15 of them were around 221-222 grams (missing a coin), and another 3 were 215-216 grams (missing two coins)...

So I was short 21 quarters, or $5.25... not happy, I started opening the rolls, hoping for a stray W... instead, about halfway through, one of the 39 coin rolls produced an odd sound when I opened it:

Yeah, not one, but TWO 1964-D quarters...

Needless to say, I was very happy to end up a little more than $5 ahead (based on the price of silver).
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

The person who shorted the rolls knew what they were doing.
