PCGS - Collectors chase the 1921 Peace dollar for more than its debut status. As the series's only high-relief issue, gem examples are difficult to find. But this PCGS MS66 example beat the odds — selling for $19,975 in 2021.

Why do they label all or most of the 1921 Peace dollars "High-Relief", when they are all High Relief?

Valid question. I've seen PCGS holder for this coin both ways. I have no data on why they did this. My speculation is inconsistency on their internal standard when they were getting started.

@smat45 - I'm impressed and surprised that you remember I have this coin, and still do in fact.

My elbow surgery is not until Monday, so I'm still contributing as I can.

My photos of the coin are horrible - but here it is in the PCGS MS65/CAC holder.

I really need to work on my photo skills - this is a stunning well struck example of a classic US coin key date.

I've looked at more than I could remember over the years, and still don't know how to distinguish between them.

I like the peach color of the MS66. My best struck 1921 is from the proof dies. Believe it's 1-H. I judge them by the sharpness of the hair detail. This one still has a few flat spots on the high points.

I could drool and dream. I would have liked a MS 64 for my set, but they cost nearly $2000. So I searched carefully and patiently for a CAC AU 58 that I like a lot. I think it has the eye appeal of most MS 63s, but not a MS 64. MS 66 way too much $$$ for this little guy.
