This is a recent purchase, not in hand yet but will be in a day or two. From what I can find the Chelsea Bank was only in operation for 2 years, 1836-1838.

My research via Heritage auctions, PMG population report, and a lot of google searching has me stumped. I did find a $100 1836 Chelsea banknote in a Heritage auction sale in 2005 for $402.

The only other find on a $1 note is in the Harvard University Library, in the American Currency collection (New England Bank Note Co., United States, 1833-1858).

I think this is a very scarce note, and not spurious. I can't find any Haxby # associated with it.

Any help from the Currency Gods here? Thanks! RK

I found many of them on Heritage.
They don't look that rare to me. The example you found for $402 is a different note. Link to Heritage - https://currency.ha.com/c/search/re...14#362-42181

Thank you Steve!
I don't know how I missed them on heritage.

Many Thanks!!

PS I also got a $3 note in the same lot, 1836.

I don't see any graded on PMG, may just send in the $1 so it's "Top Pop"...lol

It's a very artistic note.
