Hi,

I was going through some Buffalo nickels & came across this 1918 Philadelphia that appears to have a date struck over it. Since the 1919 wouldn't come down in the direction of the overstrike, I didn't know what I was looking at. Any help would be appreciated.

@walk, there is a known 1918/7 overdate issued for the Denver mint:

Any chance that your coin has a D mintmark? Maybe add overall pics of both sides to this thread. Thx.

I'm not seeing any type of overdate.

Interesting find, but the bottom of the alleged 9 or 7 seems too far away from where it should be.

@walkingjim - Sorry, doesn't appear to be an overstrike.

No overdate in my opinion. The official 9 would not reach over that far. What may be happening is a die crack possibly seen at the rim at 7 o'clock may be continuing lightly into the date? Or it might be a light scratch from the rim to the date area. Might need to examine at higher magnification and repeat photo posting.
