Thanks, everybody  So now that the actual main album is complete, I think it might be time to shift into some proofs. I'm currently trying to configure what exactly in terms of proofs I would like to collect, and how to store them. I picked this up today from a different coin store than I normally go to for like, 50 cents. It looked very proof-like to me. And obviously, at this particular year, proof coins wouldn't have a mint mark. Does it look like a proof to you guys, or just a really nice business strike? To be honest, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a proof. It's very mirrored, and has a look similar to how most at this time looked.  Reverse  I am thinking to just start a proof collection at the back of my already existing album potentially. This would probably be the smartest way to go about it, and I don't feel like spending money on a new 8100 album. I also, unlike many others, don't really particularly care for the different contrasts of business strike Lincoln cents together with my circulated ones. My older business strike coins, which do have a few older style proofs mixed in, kind of blend together more IMO. Edited by Humanist1287

Thank you! I received this today   Reverse  I now have 2 of 3 of my goal Wheat cent key dates  The last one being the 1914-D. I am planning at some point or another purchasing the 1970-S small date when I find one for a decent price that I like. However, that one, I might crack out of the slab, depending. I'm also considering at some point finding a 1922-D "weak D" variety, to use to fill in the 22 plain spot. A nice, somewhat similar, cheaper alternative. |

I don't know what ANACS was thinking, that 09-S is NOT a VF-25 at all. The cheek/jaw have no separation and the wheat lines are nearly obliterated. That's an F-12 by any measure.

I've got a fairly nice 1922-D, and am happy with that. I've always been a bit annoyed the Dansco Cent book included that 1922 Plain hole, since it is actually a Mint Error. Shouldn't even be included. I'm okay leaving it empty. Edited by Vector Ze

I am sort of having a continuation with this collection now.  Anyone have any thoughts to possibly cracking the 1909-S and 31-S out of their slabs to add to the album?  I both enjoy this idea and kind of... don't enjoy it lol I'm going to start opting to purchase proof coins. I know I've been down this road before. However, now that I've purchased some of the key date coins, I want to really own a more "full set" of Lincolns. Last night, I ordered a Dansco 8100 from ebay. The album I ordered was used, but in really good shape. It's also an older album from what I can tell, which were made better. Now, the only downside is the fact that there are only 8 pages, so it goes to 2007. For whatever reason, the 9th page is impossible to find right now. All the other pages you can find. Quite annoying IMO. However, I do have plenty of blank pages in the meantime. Also, this is sort of nice, because I can customize the last page however I want. In my past experience, for whatever reason, it seems albums that are made by Dansco that are a bit older seem to hold up better in terms of wear and tear. My plan is to do the proof-only issues. I'm not going to bother for the most part with earlier proofs. If I do, I'll just use them in place of the business strike like I have in past. My main annoyance is a lack of an actual labeled port for the 81 Type 2 proof.  Edited by Humanist1287

I think I will. I will, however, I think wait until I get the new album to do it, strictly for a rite of passage type scenario  |
