I found a few 1914-D cents von ebay for just over your $100.00 limit maybe youcan make allowences for the key cent coins.

BUT!!!! Beware there are fakes being sold on the Bay too - like this one?
ebay item number:396515126537
It is from Taiwan and is a terrible looking fake. Look at the Mint mark - it is too small and too low below the date. (at least to me eyes anyway) and it is going for 128 dollars - do NOT buy this one..

Awesome! I'll take a look. Unfortunately, I'm a bit short on cash at the moment.

The 1909 VDB that I received yesterday.

Kind of a bummer that within the first four coins in the album, two of them are key dates.

Thanks, guys!

I went through some various coin rolls today. 10 dollars worth of cents, since that was all they had. A few dimes, and a nickel roll. Nothing in any of the non-penny rolls.
Didn't find too much... But I was super excited to FINALLY find an older Wheat cent while coin roll hunting. I found a 1917 plain. Nothing too exciting, but hey, I'll take it.

Already had this one, but a pretty nice 1953-D. An "upgrade."

Alright... So I already had this 1970 S on the right. I am pretty sure it is the large date. However, in my searching today, I acquired the one on the left. Is it just me, or does the left one look slightly different? Could it be a small date? And the mint mark looks completely different IMO.

Thanks, jbuck! What do you think about the two 1970 S coins? Are they both large date?

darn. Lol. I knew I couldn't get that lucky.

Any idea why the mint mark looks so different?

Mint marks were applied to the dies by hand back then, so depth and position can vary.

Ah, I see. Makes sense now.

yeah, the small dates are a bit difficult to find in the wild..

That's why I was hoping it was one. Lol. Ah well, one can hope anyways.

I am considering adding some proofs to my collection at some point.

But in order to do this, I may have to remove the shield cents. I'm not sure which route I wanna take. In my Jefferson album, if anyone has recalled, I have all the ported business strikes. I then added all my proofs to the collection in the unlabeled slots, and added an extra page as well to accommodate the rest of the proofs . I might take this route with the cents as well and I like this way of organizing, as it allows you to have all the proofs together, since Dansco doesn't include any of the earlier minted proofs generally in their albums.

Man, the proofs before like, 1956 or 57 sure are costly from what I've seen. Evidently, like the Jefferson early minted proofs, they are lower mintage and a bit more pricey. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on whatever proofs I can eventually, though. Any thoughts? Should I just stick to collecting the memorial cents proofs if I go this route?

Decisions, decisions.

For what it is worth, I only collect the modern proofs starting with 1968 San Francisco issues. The only "classic" Philly proof I have is the 1964 Kennedy, because Dansco saw fit to include that hole, along with the 1965-1967 SMS issues.

Interesting notions. Did all modern proofs minted by San Francisco start in 1968?
