It's a pity about the huge circular scratches on both coin faces. However, this example of the FS-901 1¢/25¢ mule clash can still be added to my reference library. Edited by Brandmeister 09/09/2025 7:47 pm

Damage aside, a nice example!

This looks like a Snow 8 clash with 25 cent coin instead of 50 cent Snow 9.

You're right. I had the information correct in the title, but I typed 50¢ in the post body. Fixed, thanks.

How many of this variety were minted? Snow's original estimate was 50. It looks like over a hundred have been graded. I have found two nice VF examples.

There are definitely more than 50! I have 2, a nice XF that was cherry-picked raw and a PCGS MS63.
I used to pick the 50 cent clash all the time, have stopped going for that one.
Still waiting on a nice $20 clash!

Was the estimate of 50 for mint state survivors or total survivors? The combined graded coins for PCGS and NGC far exceed 50. That's not including the raw coins that people own, particularly beat up examples like my 3 coins. I would say that number needs to be revised way upwards. Quote: Still waiting on a nice $20 clash! I think the two obverse mule clashes ($20, 50¢) get picked immediately. Just recently, I let a couple half dollar clashes slip away on ebay because the bidding got overheated.

I don't think there is any chance that 50 Mint State examples exist for this clash.
The Quarter clash has a few things going against it. First it's on the reverse. Obverse varieties get more attention. Second, this variety cannot easily be identified in lower grade s like the 50 cent and $20 clashes.

Well, the combined total of graded mint state specimens (PCGS and NGC) of Snow-8 is 30. Surely there must be some mint state examples in ANACS slabs, and some raw uncirculated specimens in collections.
I have to agree with your other observations. I personally think the reverse eagle clash deserves more love. It's a cool feature and I like how the eagle is right-side up, mostly complete, and clearly visible.
