$600 in 2017 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $790.75 today, so I call that a huge win!

"$600 in 2017 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $790.75 today" That's what they say but hasn't been my reality

On average, it tracks, but for some things, it does not.

I think you did very good for yourself there, thecoinguy1964!

In a similar vein, although I owned some collectible gold coins as part of my type album, I didn't own any gold bullion prior to 2011-2012 when gold hit the $1700-1800 range. I promised myself that if gold prices ever fell back down that I would buy some, and when gold dipped below $1300/oz in 2013 I ended up picking up one 1-oz American Gold Eagle and five 1-oz American Gold Buffaloes at $1270 per ounce, for a total of $7620.

Of course, I then watched gold prices dip below $1200 and then below $1100 and then almost to $1000, followed by a few years where it basically stayed at $1200-1300, all of which made me despair a bit. At today's gold price of $3659, however, my original investment of $7620 is now worth just under $22,000.

Could I have done better had I invested that money in the stock market? Perhaps. But I'm certainly not complaining!

I was very reluctant to buy gold, but I finally jumped in. At these prices, I've bought my last gold coin. Like everyone else, I wish I'd bought more.

Hey I was on that 2017 thread.

Somewhere back then I bought a common AU58 $10 Indian for $700 on ebay. I was ashamed of myself because nobody wanted them at that time, but I wanted a good strike and there were dozens to pick from. It was a buyer's market.

Not so much anymore though. Hard for me to justify buying in a rising market. I need a plateau.

I sold my gold about a month ago....now have 1200 oz of silver to get rid of. Thought I would go sell it at $50, but I think the ride isn't quite over yet.

Could have held on for another 10%, but hindsight it 20/20.

I believe that is a safe bet.

Keep at it guys! I won't compete with you. I've got a bid in on a couple of nice Oregon Trail halves. While you're away at the metals exchange, no one's minding the coin store.
