Quote: Great notes, walk2dwater and SchwarzerEinser! -Thanks Rob & @scopru! -Nice high denomination from China! My first 1947 is this large-format P-83 One Colon from El Salvador: https://en.numista.com/531966My 2nd example is this huge £5 gem thin paper ( P-343 security thread) "White Fiver" from the Bank of England I posted 6 years ago: https://en.numista.com/202889At first glance it doesn't appear much (printed only on the front side) but if you hold it up to the light it has an extensive watermark & if you read up on these, they have quite the history (with Operation Bernhard during the end of WW2, etc)

Very nice note from China @NumisRob, and thanks for the info about the watermark on the £5 note @walk2dwater. I only know it from catalogues, and the watermark really doesn't come across there, but your photo shows it brilliantly! My pick for 1947 is a very understated note where the reverse is nicer than the front. But I still like it: Netherlands - P# 82 - 100 Gulden 1947 (PMG 67 EPQ)

More great notes! Love the old Dutch one! 1946 France 500 Francs: François-Rene de Chateaubriand is depicted on the front of this note: he was a true polymath - a writer, historian, politician and onetime French ambassador to the UK. He lived from 1768 to 1848 and saw the Ancien Regime, the Revolution, the First Republic, the Napoleonic period and the Restoration of the Monarchy. The figures on the reverse are supposed to represent Muses. 500 Francs was not an unsubstantial sum of money in 1946, being equivalent to about £5 sterling: this small modern note is a huge contrast to the enormous old-fashioned 'white fivers' that were still being issued by the Bank of England. Anyone crossing the Channel in either direction and changing money would have been in for a shock!

Quote: and thanks for the info about the watermark on the £5 note @walk2dwater -No problem! Of the 2 notes I posted yesterday, the 1 Colon from El Salvador is far more attractive, but the history (& size) of the White Fiver is pretty impressive. Quote: My pick for 1947 is a very understated note where the reverse is nicer than the front. That Dutch note is a beauty with a knock-out grade! @SchwarzerEinser Quote: 1946 France 500 Francs: Beautiful design on that French note (like the 50 Franc from Saturday). My 46' note is just this little humble (& very common) P-85 One Yen from Japan: https://en.numista.com/207870The only thing going for it is that it is in UNC condition (which is kind of cool for its age: 80 y.o.) but that's all I got for today!

Cool note! Just a small remark: it's 20 Reichsmark, so it's a post-inflation issue.
The Mark was replaced first by the Rentenmark (1923), and then by the Reichsmark (1924). So the hyperinflation only lasted until 1923.
