I'm putting together a type set of banknotes from Tonga, including this ND (2009) 5 Pa'anga of King George V Tupou. The reverse features the royal tombs, called Langi, which date back over 800 years ago.   |

For 2008, I have this P-108 10 Patacas ZA replacement from Macau:   It has red tint with picture of A-Ma Temple and lotus watermark at the bottom left. The back shows the Bank of China main branch in Macau. Another more common note from that year is this P-28a 1 Riyal from Qatar:   I guess I got this one for the birds! |

Great examples for 2008! I'm partial to birds of course, but the red on the Macau note is particularly striking. I'll add a 2008 Bahamas 1 Dollar P-71, which was brought back from a trip. The obverse features a bust of Sir Lynden O. Pindling, while the reverse shows the Royal Bahamas Police band.   |

Also for 2008 I have a Honduras 2 Lempiras, which is mistakenly duplicated in the Krause catalogs and has two pick numbers: P-80Ag and P-90. The obverse shows a portrait of Marco Aurelio Soto at right and the coat of arms of Honduras at left. The reverse, which I especially like, depicts Tiger Island and the port city of Amapala.   |

It was a huge undertaking trying to track all the currency issued by so many nations. 2007This is Estonia's P-87 a 25 Krooni which I bought after a trip to the Baltics. I never saw these while visiting as the nation had switched to Euros by the time I went. "Old Town" in Tallinn made me feel like I was walking in a medieval movie set. It really got me hooked on European travel.   The next ND note is P-26 a $5.00 from Solomon Islands (issued in 2007):   I picked up quite a few early Solomon notes with their QEII portraits but also loved seeing the local scenes on the reverse. This later version was part of an inexpensive 3 note lot & I really like the long boat & huts portrayed on its back. |

Lovely banknotes! I enjoy notes from both Estonia and Solomon Islands. The historic village scene on the 25 Krooni is especially nice. Quote:

For 2007 I have two circulated notes from South Korea, given to me by a college roommate from South Korea. Both are ND, so I've provided links to Numista. The first is a 1000 Won P-54. The obverse features Yi Hwang, an important Korean philosopher. The reverse shows a painting of Dosan Seowon, an ancient Confucian academy founded by Yi Hwang's disciples.   The second note is a 10,000 Won P-56. The obverse shows King Sejong the Great, while the reverse depicts the Honcheonsigye, an astronomical clock from 1669.   |

Nice acquisitions! For 2006  This P-108f 2-digit rotator-radar from Sri Lanka features Shinhaleze Chinze at right. On the reverse of the 10 Rupees is a painted stork at top right, Presidential Secretariat building in Colombo & flowers at the bottom (vertical orientation). I picked this note up about 10 years ago after I did an ebay search for "radar" My 2nd 2006 note I just picked up & posted here just recently:  It is Ulster's Bank P-339 5 Pounds which commemorates football (soccer) legend George Best's passing in 2005 on the back. The note is identical to their regular Ulster Bank 5 quid other than the GB prefix, a miniature Best kick-off below the left serial & the back which is entirely dedicated to the Manchester-United star. Merry Christmas, everyone! I'm working on the 2006 series from Trinidad and Tobago and I currently have the 1, 5, 10, and 20 Dollar notes. Of those I think the 10 Dollars (P-57) is my favorite, so I'll share it here. The obverse features a rufous-vented chachalaca, or cocrico, which is one of two national birds for Trinidad and Tobago. The reverse, less inspired, depicts the Central Bank building.   |
