I was curious myself so I went on ebay and checked the "completed" listings. I was surprised that there were quite a few in about the same grade as yours. It looks like yours would be worth about $15 - $25
I found the same thing when I looked. I was surprised that it was worth more than a few bucks because usually my expectations for world currency values are pretty low
Value is what people will pay for it. The front is Lady Hazel Lavery The back is representation of river gods This date 30.9.76 would be showing the 4th signature pairing.
It's a nice note. I honestly thought it would be worth a little more. CK, Do you mostly collect coins and happened to win this in a coin lot or you just liked the looks of it and bid on it?
I got it in an auction for a coin club that I am in with some of my club dollars. It was a silent auction and I basically bid nothing. I thought it looked cool and I knew that a pound is worth more than a dollar so I basically bid $1 worth of points
Good for you; you did great! It always feels good when you have a little win. I started with coins and moved to banknotes, enjoying the larger canvas of art, history, and culture with the addition of color, unique serial numbers, varying signatures, and anti-counterfeit measures like ultraviolet devices etc.
It is a very popular Irish £1 (aka "Punt"). As @ichirensha pointed out, 1976 is the last & most popular year we see examples of this One Pounder. I was going to pick an UNC example up (for about $15-$20) a few years ago but then discovered Pam West's site & purchased a 1963 P-64a variety instead. It has a more purple "mulberry" serial number too.
