Hello,

I recently noticed two rather intriguing objects in a sale currently running at MDC Monaco and I was wondering if anyone here has already encountered similar pieces or experiments.

The first appears to be a bronze blank (8.50 g - 26.5 mm) with only the edge lettered incuse: "DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI QUINTO."
Most references I can find show plain edges, which makes me wonder whether this might be an edge-lettering trial or experimental blank under George III.

The second piece is described as a William IV crown trial struck in lead (1832). The edge is also lettered, but the object remains quite unusual and could perhaps correspond to a technical trial or experimental striking.

Here are the two coins:

George III - edge lettering trial:

William IV - lead crown trial:

If anyone has seen similar pieces or knows of references in the literature, I would be very interested to learn more.

Many thanks in advance.

There is a lead pattern of the 1832 crown listed in English Silver Coinage
(R7 -1 or 2 examples known) but the auction specimen doesn't seem well struck.
