Licinius I But Can't Figure Out Reverse

Sap Moderator Australia 16817 Posts	Posted 04/14/2026 6:11 pm That there's not a "soldier". The reverse legend is "IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG" (Jupiter protects the emperors). The figure is thus Jupiter (or Jove), standing mostly-unclothed, holding orb and long sceptre, with his usual bird the eagle at his feet. In the exergue is the mintmark, ANT for Antioch. Licinius I and Licinius II are easy to tell apart: Licinius II never held the senior rank of "Augustus", while Licinius I never held the junior rank of "Caesar". So if you can read the name "LICINIVS", and the titles end in "P F AVG", then it's Licinius I, but if the titles end with "NOB CAES" or something similar, then it's Licinius II. Licinius II is also always shown clean-shaven, while his dad always has a beard.
