I believe the mint would sell more coins, and in a timely fashion if they would dictate a selling period. Say 3 months, or the end of the year, whichever comes last.
As an example, the FIFA gold coins are selling poorly, as I understand it. Wouldn't collectors be more motivated if they knew sales were low, and end of sales approaching
Someone set me straight.

It's difficult to sell novelty bullion, no matter what the subject.

Most modern US commemorative coin programs have a built-in sales period limitation - generally the initial year of issue.

The legislation that authorized the FIFA coin program, for example, incorporates a sales period limit:

"Secretary may issue coins under his Act only during the calendar year beginning on January 1, 2026."

The time limitation doesn't always help - some coin themes simply are popular with collectors.
