It looks to me like the zinc inside the cent started to develop some corrosion and collapsed inward creating a sink hole. I have seen a few. Most time it around the mint mark tho.

Wouldn't a sinkhole be more erratic ? This looks more contoured.

Just looks like corrosion to me.
