I do not think it was available for sale at the mint gift shop. DNA would know for sure, since he goes to the Denver Mint every other day!

I know 1 of my sets are already in route, I still believe for all the hype and moaning, this will be a very sweet addition to any one's collection, not to sell, just like the old days, for the collection.
I can not help but think what people, before the internet, went through to place an order, and no clue as to when it would be arriving, we have the easiest, most efficient, quickest, advanced at your fingertips advantage to date, and we still are wanting everything yesterday, LOL, Mike...

Quote: I can not help but think what people, before the internet, went through to place an order, Heck.... I didn't even know you COULD order anything directly from the U.S. Mint until early in 2006 ! And yes, I'd most definately have to agree, that because of the internet, it has opened up this hobby to incredible proportions that were previously unimaginable/impossible unless you lived right by a Mint facility like DNA does ! ..... Though there are still A LOT of folks who are completely unaware that you can order stuff directly from the Mint. This is glaringly obvious when you see on Ebay that brand new coin material/products are for sale (or at HSN/Coin Shoppe on t.v.) that are STILL CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR SALE CHEAPER DIRECTLY FROM THE MINT ITSELF ! And folks are buying the stuff when they don't know that they don't have to use that secondary market at all. And, as we all know, a lot of things are available ALL YEAR LONG at the Mint too! It's just unfortunate for those who aren't aware. (though I do realize that sometimes a secondary market purchase can actually be cheaper than buying it directly from the Mint)

I agree with you morgans dad. I had no idea the mint sold products through their website until 2004. I couldn't imagine trying to order this and other products with only a phone call. I'm sure I would have missed out on placing an order that way.

the thing is before the internet everyone would have had to order by phone unless they took a trip to the mint (which I am not sure how that would work) and they wouldn't have sold out as fast. Not to mention without the internet most people wouldn't have even known this set existed until they saw one someone else had gotten. I think before the internet the only products the mint produced was proof sets and uncirculated sets, and maybe a few commems but nothing like what they are pushing now and with nowhere near the sales they are generating now either

I'm glad most of you got one. On Wednesday, my computer decided to die, so I instead spent the money to buy the set on fixing the computer.

However, the really limited items, like the LN6 Set, aren't sold in the Denver or Philadelphia Mint Gift Shops. ( Irony: I can walk right in there and buy a 2009 UHR 1 oz. Gold Double Eagle, but not the LN6 set! The 2009 1 oz. Gold Proof Buffalo will also be available there shortly...) This means that on Oct. 15th, I took the day off of work and decided to raise my blood pressure by attempting to order the LN6 Set, which I am happy to report that I now have a Shipping Confirmation for!

Also, the Denver Mint never seems to have any Philadelphia Mint business strike coins around (imagine that!), so again this very forum enables me to get BU Philly coins that do not show up in Denver's circulation pool. Earlier this year at work, I raffled off a BU roll of 2009-P LP1 Cents for charity. This was a big hit, because even my co-workers are quite aware that if they ever did receive a "P" LP1 in their change, it would be several years from now and most likely a zinced-out wreck in various shades of black and/or green.

Don't forget catalog and mail orders. These were going on long before the Internet and accounted for many sales.
