I got this out of a mint sewn bag in 1995. I have no idea what could have happened to it,do any of you?. Also, does it have a collector value?Is it an error or a variety?Thank you for your input, John1    |

Wow, that's wild! Right out of the mint bag? Never seen anything like that. Of course, there's tons I have yet to see. Can't wait to see what this is diagnosed with.

Was it black in the center when you found it or has it turned color with time?This seems to be a real Oddity since it never really made it into circulation

The fact that it was and is illegal does and did not matter much:-) There are several major errors that have been proven to be made by certain less than honest Mint employees. The Sacagawea / State Quarter Mule comes to mind...and there are others. Thanks, Bill Edited by foundinrolls

Why would a mint employee torch this coin,i only found the one coin out of 5000 that was in the bag. If it was torched,why such a perfect circle? Thanks, John1 |

Didn't read that it came from a mint bag. Don't know if a mint employee did it or not, it just "looks" like a typical torched coin. The classic localized burn to one side with the golden aluminum tint to the other side with the round flare, oh & the striations............. which are another classic torched look. Just my assessment from killing a few coins in the name of............. ah science & curiosity before I collected. I have a few, which I'll post later.
