Difference Between Kennedy 1976 S Bicentennial Half Dollars

Darth Anarchus Pillar of the Community United States 1388 Posts	Posted 06/05/2010 9:27 pm it is referring to the silver-clad and the clad versions of the 1776- 1976 kennedy... there are also proof versions of both... the silver sets were sold in special sets sold directly from the mint with the bicentennial quarter, half- dollar, and dollar... coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/06/2010 10:30 am There were three 76-S halves. One clad, one silver clad and one proof. If you have the Red Book, note the listings on the columns. MS-63 (Business Strikes) PF-65 (Proof strike). So if you have one of the clad ones, the rim will show the copper edge. If you have one of the silver clad ones the rim will show no copper edge and you can compare it with the single layer of tissue (TP or facial)to confirm it. In 1980 forward the coins minted from San Francisco are proof ones with the S mint mark. There are other U.S. proofs that do not have the S mints from the Philadelphia or West-point mint marks from the 80's forward. Hope this helps? Report this Post to the Staff

Actually one silver clad uncirculated (from the three piece uncirculated set), one silver clad proof (from the three piece proof set), and one Cu-Ni clad proof (from the normal six piece set).
