There is something to be said for those older note designs.

Picked this up at the bank not a note but still old hope that's ok and what would be the possibility of finding a note that old in circulation or is that impossible

I was guiding some American passengers on a tour from a cruise ship yesterday. This 1988-A dollar bill was among my tips!

Quote: I got this from my bank the other day. That Series 1990 $50 is in great shape for being almost 30 years old! Very nice. Is that offset ink transfer on the top of it?

The Grant $50 has always been the highlight of our small size notes.

CelticKnot: Yes I believe it is a wet ink transfer of some sort.

I can finally feel a sense of ease now, as I got an old style $20 that was the exact series and FRB block of the one involved in the story below I'm sharing for the first time. In the summer of 2016, my first summer with heavy involvement in seeking old style bills, I went to a carnival that didn't have an admission charge to see what it was like over there since my parents didn't go to carnivals that much, and I could finally go since I was now able to drive. The way this one worked was everything required a certain number of tickets, which were bought at one of the windows so no actual money changed hands anywhere besides the ticket offices and food vendors. At one of the ticket windows I saw a woman pay with a small head $20, and since there was no line I pulled out my own $20 and asked to trade for it. The ticket woman held the bill up to the glass and asked if I wanted what she was holding, so I said yes it was an older bill that I liked to collect. (the bill was a 1988A B-J $20 in pretty good shape) She then smirked and said nope, I'm not giving it to you for that, so I took my $20 back and handed her a $50 asking for $10 in tickets thinking I'd get that $20 back since it was now on top of the pile. Her assistant started to hand me my $40 change including that $20 I wanted but the snotty woman who wouldn't give it to me replaced the old $20 with a new one. I don't even remember which games I went to, as I was in a BAD mood for the rest of the night, though looking back I would probably have done really well at that arcade game where you have to punch the target as hard as you can! Fast forward 3 years, and the teller at one of my pick up banks has an old 20 set aside for me, and it too is a 1988A B-J. I probably won't keep it long term since I already have an old $20 in my collection in better shape, but I feel like I've gotten the bill I missed 3 years ago so it's that smug satisfaction that counts!
