2006 Penny Gold Toned? - Coin Community Forum

thatcanuckyguy Valued Member Canada 166 Posts	Posted 03/07/2011 7:53 pm I found this today in a roll and have other 2006 ( mag and non )almost looks like gold but I know its not...is this gold tone common? Ugly Pillar of the Community Canada 1733 Posts	Posted 03/07/2011 9:52 pm This can be because: the penny got hot or more common is that it's a plating error with the nickel intermediate (barrier) layer not present at all or too weak to prevent the copper from being discoloured by the steel.
