If this was a 36 P, would it get the 65 RD grade? I don't think so. One thing that I have to continuously remind myself of, the top of the grading scale is MS70....and start there, not the other way around. Obverse has a hit in the field just to the right of his nose, a minor doink in the cheekbone, and a smudge in the field between Liberty and IN. Reverse has a spot between the right wheat and the rim, a doink on the N of one. Now, go back to when this coin was struck and the state of dies during this time. This is a superb strike. Excellent detail in hair, quite a bit in the beard, superb wheat stocks, and sumptious fields - especially on the reverse. So, overall, this is 65 Red. Report this Post to the Staff

I like to save pics of surpreme Lincolns when I run into them....this coin is extremely exceptional for the issue and it tends to challenge the perception of an MS-65RD coin. Acloco - Wheats actually start at 69, there's none graded higher. Apparently the grading standards say it's impossible to have an MS-70 Wheat cent. Lincoln Cent Lover!
